Letter to my Sister and Brother from the City of my Birth and Built by the Portuguese
My Dear Sister and My Dear Brother from Mazaɣan, Mazaghan, ⵎⴰⵣⴰⵖⴰⵏ; جّديدة; ejjdida; الجديدة Al-Jadida; Mazagao; Mazagan
Before, when I met you during my visits to Morocco, I did not talk much between us about what I was doing as studies and research in France nor about my work in the USA but now I do it for the present generation to give them what the others before us had no opportunity to do so given the expressive isolation and repressive environment.
In 1978, within the Institute of Economic Research and Planning, University of Grenoble – University Pierre Mendes France, I was the first Moroccan to research Latin America. Along the same line, I am also and became the First Moroccan to come for a year to the University of Berkeley in California to research Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru, and all the Latin America it was the year 1981-1982
After that, in 1982, through Yves Barel, my Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Research and Planning, University of Grenoble, I was invited by Celso Furtado to go back to Paris to join him [Allah ya Rahmhoum]
Life is not easy everywhere, otherwise it cannot be pleasant to share. In 1977-78, I started my DEA at the DEA a l’Institut de Recherche Economique et de Planification – l’IREP de Université Grenoble Alpes. As a Good Citizen I can be, I wanted to give back to Morocco the knowledge I acquired so far and … Continue reading
Celso Furtado wanted me to register as a PhD student and researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Latin America and again as the first Moroccan in this Institute for Advanced Studies in Latin America, I published my research within a Laboratory 111 IHEAL CREDA associated with the CNRS and hold on to Brazil, here is the link:
This publication dates from 1985, as the content of this link attests, it can be found in the most prestigious libraries in the world, including the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro.
According to William Glade, whom I had the privilege of meeting in Paris and asked me for a copy of this same publication and who had the courtesy to correspond with me regarding its contents and to deposit it at the Library of the University of Texas has Austin which houses one of the largest collections on Latin America. {see my narration of this passage in English at the bottom of this writing}
Dear Sister and Dear Brother, it goes without saying that Brazil has been the target of my research since 1977, and therefore the Portuguese, so how can someone who jumped the walls of the Breija, the Moon, the Club and not be a little curious about the Portuguese of Mazagao and their relationship with the Don Joao de Algarve and the Portuguese Royal Houses up to Don Pedro Primero, Don Pedro Segundo Braganca, and Deodoro Da Fonseca.
Between us and in the year 1979 – 1980, I discovered that the Mazaganese with their Moro Converted Berbers had moved to the Azores to end up on the banks of the mouth of the Amazon to found Nova Mazagao in a classic book written by the father of the Economic History of Brazil: Prado Junior, Caio: Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo – Colônia, see this link:
So between 1978 and 1992 {date of the launch of my research and date of the defense of my doctoral thesis}, in fact more than 14 years of research on Latin America, I wrote more than 2000 pages of which 1400 pages only for my Doctoral Thesis, Political Economy of Subcapitalism in Latin America (1830-1930): Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and this I supported within the walls of the University of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle and through which, I created a new Economic Theory, Subcapitalism: http://goo.gl/lYk9Su
Said El Mansour Cherkaoui’s academic pursuits include affiliations with institutions such as Université de la Sorbonne, Paris III, Institut des Hautes Etudes de l’Amérique Latine, and Paris Sciences Po, Grenoble Tate Yoko Research Institute.
So I frolicked like a Crazy Horse from Moulay Abdellah Banou Mghar between several corridors of hundreds of research centers, libraries, museums, archives and other institutions with knowledge on Latin America, France, Portugal, Spain, Great Britain, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Mexico and of course also Morocco.
By the way, Morocco was the subject of my Diploma Thesis at the Institute of Political Studies of Grenoble, Sciences Po Grenoble: “The Economic Intervention of the Moroccan State: The Case of the Textile Industry” and that was in 1977.
I was the second Moroccan in the entire history of the University of Grenoble, now Université Pierre Mendes France, to present research on the Textile Industry in Morocco.
Here are my escapades in the books of our History, of which I am attaching one of them that you can read about our ancestors, the unpublished sources of the history of Morocco or our city is treated as well
You will also find below a photo representing the page where our City Mazagao / Mazagan is approached
Dear Sister and My Dear Brother, I can only approve and say that indeed even long before the name of Mazagan or El Jadida was introduced, Fortaleza Mazagao and its neighbor Azemmour served as a transit link for goods, not only as a port but as a destination for caravans from sub-Saharan countries.
During the presence of the Portuguese, their trade with the interior of the country to the borders of the Atlas had as export port first Azemmour and Fortaleza Mazagao thereafter until their departure.
Even the name Morocco comes from the deformation of the name Marrakech as pronounced by the Portuguese of Mazagao.
The Portuguese of Fortaleza Mazagao, the Capital of Doukkala gave them the name of the Country Morocco, the Moroccan authorities of the present erased the name of our Region Doukkala from the Administrative Map of Morocco.

In the late of 1970’s, while conducting my research on Brazil I discovered the real spiritual reason why I have been attracted and directed first by Yves Barel, and later by Celso Furtado, Raymond Prats, Frederic Mauro and Jacques Chonchol and why I met and received guidance from many scholars on Brazilian affairs from France, England, USA and Brazil. The reason I found it in an old book written by Prado Junior, Caio: Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo – Colônia, see this link:
With Celso Furtado and Raymond Prats guidance at the CREDAL, I conducted this research. The focus is to analyze the determinations and the results of the intervention of the Brazilian State in shaping the economic development and facilitating the transition between the Old Republic and the emergence of industrialists, Tenentes and technocrats within the spheres of the central decision-making.
Professor William Glade (see copy of his letter) has defined this work as a pioneer in its field of research on Brazil. Through correspondence, Professor William Glade stated that only 2 Scholars inaugurated such area of research, Professor Steve Topik and Said El Mansour Cherkaoui.
In recognition of such work, Dr. William Glade deposited a copy of my Research at the Prestigious Library of the University of Austin, Texas, here is the link:

Since my early studies at Institut des Etudes Politiques of the Grenoble University, the development, and integration of Africa were at the forefront of my studies and topics of my presentations in seminaries and essay papers.
Made in Mazagan and Doukkala.
Above the arms, I overlook my shots,
Above the rooftops, I sing my victories,
Above the shouts and joys, I rock my palms and my athletic palmares Made in Mazagan and Doukkala.
Thank you Bouafi Nora indeed this jump was achieved even before Michael Jordan made its signature for the Nike and Red Chicago Bulls Basketball Team. — in Montpellier, France.

I publish articles, reports, and analyses on #Morocco #Africa #Europe #Northamerica #SouthAmerica and #Asia.
Memories and Writers of Legacies are among my favorites where I extract personages and wise minds when I am writing about the treasures of humanity identified in my cultural background like in my inviting cultural environment where I am only a Guest of Knowledge.
A swing between dreams and memories are the nights and the days for the exploration of ideals and models to pass to the new generation as historical human milestones in the road of existence following the path traced by those who shed the light on our own lives.
My publications concentrate also on digital and techno-logistical changes with insights on the evolution and differentiation of business, trade, and finance applicable management models and socio-strategic implementations with an evaluation of economic development theories along with an assessment of concepts and entrepreneurial planning and realizations.
I focus on changes around the world that have an impact on the process of decision-making and what can make a difference in the daily existence of cultural communities, business organizations, institutional establishments, representative professional groups, and political entities. These are the change makers and the conduits cultivate their interests based on the vision of the renewal of values and value-added solutions.
In my writings and thought emancipation, I look at areas, domains, and subjects that carry potential and prospective changes within their movement of transfer, connection, and inner contradictions shaping their evolution within new spheres of transformation and interventions.
Maintaining the force’s presence in the balanced position of weakness is what enacts the movement of directing changes within a frame of the antagonistic relationship. Enhancing paradoxes creates elements and instruments of control and definition of new functions within and among these forces that are channeled toward dependency and reliance on external factors for their equilibrium.
This process is taking place within a frame of regional military conflict in parallel to financial and economic sanctions that are kept in a balance of weakness. This equilibrium is controlled by external forces that have their forces maintained in a balanced position of weakness. A cascade of control is spreading within various spheres of decision. Interactions are applied to economic sectors and financial instruments.

Do not hesitate to share with me your impressions, remarks, initiatives, and opportunities for transatlantic and trans-African collaboration.

The Peak of the Atlas Mountain – the Place of the Birth of my Own Ancestors. The best is still to come.
Made in USA and presented by Said Cherkaoui Ph.D..

Since my early studies at Institut des Etudes Politiques of the Grenoble University, the development, and integration of Africa were at the forefront of my studies and topics of my presentations in seminaries and essay papers. It was natural that I continue to work and increase awareness about Africa and its need to establish new kinds of relations with countries other than the past metropolitan and colonialists.
I extended the invitation to Dr. Boubacar N’diaye for his presence among us at this International Conference on Africa. He was delighted about my presentation and we also sat together and had lunch at the same table. Wonderful Man with full love for Africa and Africans and who initiated a series of important financial and operational measures: the African Businessmen Round Table, the creation of the African Bank for import-export (Afreximbank), and the setting up of special easy financing for the African private sector (investors and entrepreneurs) without the guarantee of their governments.
Here below among other pictures, there is a photo taken in the company with the Regretted Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, former CEO of the African Development Bank Group who holds firmly my hand and is standing at my left side.
I initiated and developed a work plan for the organization of The International Conference on Africa took place in 2001. The first time in the history of the Bay Area of San Francisco and North California to have a conference of such magnitude and subject. that I submitted to Fazale Sharif the Director of the EBCITD which I was the initiator and for which I participated directly in its organization. I contacted and invited Dr. Babacar Ndiaye and in the following photo, the event/photo took place during an International Conference on Africa I had organized in Oakland, California, and of which Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, Rahimahu Allah was our Guest of Honor.
Here below are listed links which content present among others some illustrations of my activities with the Integration of Africa with which I was directly involved, including the facilitation of the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Morocco.
For many among us, time flies through horizons without leaving traces of recognition and gratitude for what we have achieved for the good of others especially in my case not be born in the United States but I remain up to now the maker of differences between cultures and the guardian of the memories I cherish and remember through my meetings and interactions with the real treasuries of the Humanity.

Topic and Title of the Presentation:
Comparison of Marketing Practices and Procedures in the Western, Asian and Islamic Marketplaces and their Respective Cultural Environments.
Summary, Scope and Objectives:
In this Presentation, TRI CK USA will analyze and compare the Western, Asian and Islamic marketing and business strategies.
Drawing on our research into the role of global marketing, business and trade in formulating strategy for U.S., European and Asian companies, governmental agencies, academic institutions and professional services firms, TRI CK USA will address the failure and success in the definition, the design and the execution of global marketing strategies in regards to the local particularities within the regions we selected as representative of the Western, Asian and Islamic business practices and cultural characteristics.
TRI CK USA will also design models to compensate the lack of synergistic relationship between marketing and business strategies at the level of the adaptation and adjustment of the Market and Customer segments in relation to the Customer Lifetime Value, Customer Retention and Customer Relationship Management.
TRI CK USA will then provide a series of global recommendations focused on the localization and the customization of product issues, communication, organization structure, distribution, brand management and leadership to help international marketing “Gurus” to lead and to adopt strategy processes that can take in consideration the various local believes and practices.
In this presentation, TRI CK USA focuses on the gathering business information and indications, analyzing and processing the related data in business intelligence that can serve as inputs and vectors to the definition of strategies and feasibility studies or just case-study analysis.
Subsequently, my presentation is more than a show of PowerPoint slides, it is intended to be a powerful analytical tools, first-sight instruments and solid ressources made of practical and workable solutions that recommend and generate efficient environment scan, productive business intelligence and deep insight to be used in face fundamental challenges and transform international business opportunities and requirements into global success.
Cutting the Ribbon for Inauguration with Introductory Notes:
The multinational and the global corporations have differentiated approaches and strategies seeking expansion in foreign countries and international market. The multinational corporations define their international strategies for pre-selected sets and number of countries with customized and adapted products and services in accordance to the local cultural and business conditions.
In today’s globalized economy, corporations operate with a certain level of assertiveness and consistency. They consider the emergence of global markets as a standardized consumer demand that leaves no room for customization of the product or the service. This is mainly because of the rise of technological and standardized consumer products that are easier to produce and distribute at a global level.
However, while applications and other digital services can be customized to some extent, the same is not applicable for physical products. This makes it challenging for corporations to cater to individual preferences and demands of consumers in different markets.
Despite this, globalization is encouraged as it offers real competitive advantages for global corporations in terms of economies of scale in production, logistics and distribution, marketing, and inventory control and quality management.
As a result, global corporations can produce goods at a lower cost and distribute them more efficiently to consumers worldwide.
McDonald’s Tastes and Shapes
Geographic Segmentation
The global fast-food giant, has successfully adapted its menu and business strategies to diverse cultures around the world. Let’s delve into how McDonald’s approaches local culture in Africa and beyond:
Adaptation and Innovation:
McDonald’s strategic approach supports cultural diversity.
In Africa, this means incorporating flavors and ingredients that resonate with local tastes. For example:
Plantain-based sides in some African countries, reflecting local preferences.
McAloo Tikki in India, a vegetarian burger with spiced potato patty.
McChop in South Africa, featuring a grilled or fried chicken patty.
Respecting Cultural Differences:
McDonald’s adheres to each country’s policies and customs. They collaborate with local suppliers and source ingredients locally.
They celebrate cultural events through limited-time menu items. For instance, during Ramadan, they offer special meals in Muslim-majority countries.
By respecting cultural nuances, McDonald’s fosters goodwill and loyalty among diverse communities.
In summary, McDonald’s success lies in its ability to glocalize—combining global standards with local adaptation.
McArabia in the Middle East, a sandwich with grilled chicken or beef.
Within such considerations, TRI CK USA’s presentation is much more than a show of PowerPoint slides, it is intended to be a powerful analytical tools, first-sight instruments and solid ressources made of practical and workable solutions that recommend and generate efficient environment scan, productive business intelligence and deep insight to be used in face fundamental challenges and transform international business opportunities and requirements into global success.

From the Red and Black Social Conflict of Stendhal to the Red and Black Seas of Conflicts of Ideologies and Power Disputes
International Trade Navigating in Trouble Waters and Moody Conflictual Swing.
Once more International Trade since the First World War International Competition, International Rivalries, International Geopolitical Interests, and International National Interests Can become the Justification for Invasion and Punitive Expeditions that can be also the Sparks that Can Link All the Ingredients of these Factors of Dissensions and Divisions in One Big Conflagration of Regional Zones of Tensions and Conflicts that can be colliding with each other with time, pretexts and intensity to became War of Civilizations and Institutions.
In 2023, continued geopolitical tensions, ongoing regional conflicts, and supply chain uncertainty had a tangible impact on international trade.
Disruptions in the Black Sea and Panama and Suez Canals
The Suez Canal, a critical waterway connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, handled approximately 12% to 15% of global trade in 2023. UNCTAD estimates that the trade volume going through the Suez Canal decreased by 42% over the last two months.
At this juncture of troubling waters and muddy space, the Middle East can become the driving force behind the regional configuration and conglomeration of the Fractional Pieces for Peace or the pits of fire to spread over and become the Breaker of the International Market as Inherited from the Bretton – Woods Accords and the related establishment of the Institutional framing organizations as the Channels and the Conditioning structures for the exchange between the adhering nations.
What are the other avenues or road maps that will preserve the already-acquired privileges and advantages?
At the level of entreprises and compagnies, there is an approach that can reduce this exposure and risks that are conveyed by the clashes of civilizations and cultures of past history.
A questioning of the permissive conditions for the continuation of methods and forms of commercial exchanges can lead to the main point of dispute among advanced and less advanced economies. This question is centered on the valorization of countries as contributors in the international trade which are schematically divided between 3 large categories:
– The Producers of Natural Resources,
– The Manufacturers of Consumer Products,
– The Investors and the Owners of High Technologies.
– The Emerging Group of Countries that have Dual Form of Integration in the International Trade
Along with the added value of their manufactured products, they are countries that are hostage to the production of raw materials and natural resources without means of processing or in many cases without a knowledge of their process transformation and even control of the international circulation and exchange of their mining and natural resources.
A never concluded debate is also at the level of the formation and convertibility of value in its realization as added which since Ricardo and Marx debate has not yet been clearly defined, established in its applications and definitions at the level of the countries in progress of development characterized by economies that have not reached a high level of capitalization and reproduction of capital as national investment without recourse to international borrowing.
This shortfall remains in our time one of the fundamental pillars in the questioning of international trade clauses deeply planted by Western leading countries through all forms of regulation, declaration, conduction and monetization including the countries of the South can only adopt and accept forms of relationships in which they will have to increase their contributions without receiving the fair return and income.
Some challenges that are currently affecting global trade include:
– The U.S.-China trade war
– The Taiwan Strait crisis
– The East China Sea dispute
– The South China Sea dispute
– Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
– The Middle East conflict, Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Irak, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan
– Africa: Military Coups, CEDEAO Crisis, the Withdrawal of Sahel Countries, Ethiopia and Tigray, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Libya
– Investment, Trade and Geostrategic Rivalry between USA, European Union, Russia, China and Turkey in Africa
– Recent attacks on ships in the Red Sea by the Houthis, Response of the U.S. and U.K. with threats to Iran, considered as the Backers of the Houthis of Yemen
– Geopolitical tensions affecting shipping in the Black Sea
Geopolitical risks are the potential political, economic, military, and social risks that can emerge from a nation’s involvement in international affairs. They typically emerge whenever there is a major shift in power, a conflict, or a crisis.
Other challenges that are affecting trade include:
The strategic competition between the US and China
The UK’s departure from the European Union
Ongoing supply chain disruptions
Climate disasters
Political actions
Governments like Companies pursue their interests and develop relations around such principle that continuously need to be consolidated and reaffirmed as the priority for international interactions and regional collaborations. Political risk management is one of the major instrument to conduct and have in place to elevate the level of conscience and establish new forms of communications and responses with the major influencing elements and causes of the eruption and spread of detrimental consequences resulting from political events on a national or global scale, such as an armed conflict, constitutional referendum, election, or major policy developments. Changes in legislation or policies can also present a political risk for an organization.
Here are some ways to reduce political conflict affecting international trade:
Negotiate: Diplomatic negotiations are a key way to resolve conflicts and prevent wars.
Mediate: Mediation is a peaceful way to manage conflicts. It offers many advantages, and has been studied by scholars, practitioners, and students of political science, psychology, business management, and law.
Develop conflict resolution skills: These include mediation, dialogue facilitation, and consensus-building.
Set rules: Settling differences by talking and agreeing on rules is vital for reducing tension.
Use the WTO: Members can request the establishment of a panel to settle disputes if negotiations are not possible. The panel will issue a report, which can subsequently be appealed before the WTO’s Appellate Body on questions of law.
Promote Reformed and Fair Free Trade: Free trade between countries could reduce international conflict because trade forges connections between nations and gives each country an incentive to avoid war with its trading partners.
Basically many of these approaches had reach their limit in setting a path of collaboration and share of the same views on the resolution and anticipation of new antagonisms.
The UN’s trade and development body, UNCTAD, has raised profound concerns over escalating disruptions to global
According to a February 2024 article, the current challenges highlight the vulnerability of trade to geopolitical tensions and climate-related challenges. The article also states that collective efforts are needed to find sustainable solutions, especially for countries that are more vulnerable to these shocks. … Read more
Supporting African multilateralism: Gradual implementation of the AfCFTA
An ambitious initiative offering opportunities for worldwide businesses
Bringing together 54 signatory states among the continent’s 55, the AfCFTA aims to create the world’s largest free trade zone, representing a market of 1.3 billion consumers.
✈️ African Continental Free Trade Area
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is expected to transform African economies and lead to an increase in intraregional trade and inward investment. There is much progress in negotiations but the ultimate benefits depend on the way AfCFTA commitments are implemented. National AfCFTA Implementation Committees (NICs) can help in this endeavor.
The year 2023 is the African Union (AU) Year of Acceleration of AfCFTA Implementation. In line with the Decision of the 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (the AU Assembly), held on 1–2 July 2018 in Nouakchott, Mauritania, Member States are required to set up NICs to facilitate implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement.
The primary objective is to boost intra-African trade. “Intra-African trade currently represents only 15% of the continent’s total trade, compared with 58% in Asia and 67% in Europe” (source: UN). The World Bank estimates that the implementation of the AfCFTA will boost intra-African trade volumes by 52.3% by 2025, as well as revenues for Africa and the rest of the world.

First, AfCFTA implementation structures will need to be designed in ways that align well with existing trade negotiations and implementation structures. Second, the AfCFTA is not only a Free Trade Agreement but also a trade strategy involving a range of complementary instruments that address implementation, monitoring, payment systems, adjustment, and industrial policy.
This has led to much interest in Member States in what effective NICs look like and what they do. The role of the AfCFTA Secretariat in supporting the formation and operation of NICs is paramount. Two features associated with the AfCFTA project are important for implementation.
This briefing, aimed at the AfCFTA community concerned with implementing the AfCFTA, identifies appropriate institutional forms for NICs as well as 10 core functions that effective implementation agencies will carry out. It also outlines a potential five-step AfCFTA template for effective NIC formation and operation.
From negotiations to implementation: Building Effective AfCFTA National Implementation Committees
The African Union’s observations on the AfCFTA augur well for sectoral opportunities for businesses worldwide. Indeed, the institution behind the AfCFTA has made a number of recommendations to ensure that the initiative is properly implemented and achieves its stated projections.
According to the African Union, massive investment will be required in many sectors of African economies. The first and foremost need announced is for investment in improving the continent’s infrastructure. This financing requirement has been identified at between 130 and 170 billion dollars per year (source: AU), and the African Union is calling on governments to give priority to partnerships with the private sector and the transfer of technology on a global scale to modernize infrastructures.
On a sectoral level, opportunities have been identified in manufacturing, a sector that still contributes too little to Africa’s GDP, but whose growth forecasts have tripled following the implementation of the AfCFTA. The African Union particularly insisted on the priority of developing certain sectoral industries such as agro-processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, green technologies, and mineral processing.

Economic Integration and Eco-Financial Digitalization of Africa
Startups in Morocco and in many African countries still face a few challenges. The major one is the lack of a pipeline of talented engineers and business course-related graduates. Startups have been forced to settle for less impressive talent because they can not compete with the pull of more established traditional companies.

In 2021, the combined GDP of the 54 African countries was less than 15% of the GDP of the United States. The continent is made up of many relatively small countries, economies and markets, which is a disadvantage on the global stage, where countries with huge populations and GDPs wield the most influence.
Deeper economic integration in Africa paves the way for shared prosperity and greater global influence. Regional integration, similar to that of the European Union, has been cited as a key element in creating stability, fostering the growth of economies, improving market efficiency, sharing the costs of major infrastructure projects and ensuring peace and safety. And as the world becomes more digital every day, digital integration is essential for successful regional integration.
In this context, “digital integration” refers to the creation of shared systems and standard rules for digitalization across Africa. This involves digital cooperation, particularly in the areas of finance, governance and security. In practice, digital integration will include concepts such as a harmonized digital financial system, consistent laws across the continent for digital activities, and shared regulatory technology such as identity verification, e-taxation, and business registration systems. in Africa.
Partnerships with the private sector, building interoperable systems, and attention to electrical and Internet infrastructure are three key ideas that could help accelerate this digital integration.
